Float over images for information		This development is located on a brown field site with former uses being a car park, library and ironworks. The site is located within an outstanding conservation area on gently sloping topography. Existing development surrounding the site is mixed, including residential, commercial and industrial. The site has little in the way of a strong visual character and indeed the proximity of large oil fuel storage tanks dominate the area. Further constraints to the development incorporated the need to maintain access across the middle of the site to an existing commercial premises.
Fifteen varying needs flats have been created, costing approximately £1.8m, incorporating 1 no. disabled unit and a secure access corner block. Associated car parking is provided front and rear together with clothes drying spaces.   The opportunity was taken in the development of this site to impose a character on the new build which would be both sympathetic to the conservation status within which it is placed and impose resonances of former colour characteristics associated with older times, now all but lost to Stornoway. It was also felt that such a design would enhance the area diminishing the impact of the less attractive elements.
